MAY 25, 2014 – LUKAS MACHNIK finally hears the words he’s been waiting for, as Nate Berkus crowns him the first winner of NBC’s American Dream Builders. One year ago, the prospect of entering the world of reality TV had crossed Machnik’s mind on numerous occasions – but never did he anticipate contending in a nationwide home-remodeling competition, a challenge that would ostensibly stimulate merely one of his many talents and ambitions. Much to the world’s surprise, Machnik gives us full disclosure to his intimate design practice – he radiates passion for his multifaceted craft both on-and-off camera, and leaves no concept exempt from execution. Ingenuity is contagious, the air thick with innovation.
In the Spring of 2013, Nate Berkus hand-selected Machnik as one of the 12 top designers and home builders to compete in NBC’s bold, new, one-hour reality competition series, American Dream Builders. In search for the newest face of interior design, Nate Berkus keeps the designers on their feet, challenging them with a new architectural style each week. Nate Berkus hosts the 10-episode series, joined by Eddie George and Monica Pederson on the judges panel.
Since the consummation of American Dream Builders, Machnik’s imperishable hunger has led him rebuild, rebrand, and expand his namesake firm, Lukas Machnik Design. Machnik occupies such roles as artist, curator, interior designer, object designer, and television personality – with a complex practice that spans media, Machnik created an enterprise that would nourish his ideas, and cultivate his philosophy. Using minimalism as an aesthetic reference point, Machnik moves beyond the traditionalist ideology of interior design, and approaches projects with a curatorial sensibility. Through the employment of contrasting moods and styles, Machnik creates authentic moments of suspension and contemplation within each space he encounters.
